dbf proud sponsor of the All-American Soap Box Derby
dbf has been a proud sponsor of the Kingston/ Wilkes-Barre All-American Soap Box Derby for two years. Organized by Jack Williams Tire, this event promotes a drug free community and encourages young people to avoid the dangers of drug and alcohol abuse. Proceeds from the derby benefit Wyoming Valley Drug and Alcohol Services, Inc.

The concept for the Kingston/ Wilkes-Barre Soap Box Derby grew out of the national Soap Box Derby Championship finals that are held each year in August at the Derby Downs in Akron, Ohio. Since 1934 this event has drawn young people from all over the United States and several foreign countries. The goal of the National Soap Box Derby is to teach young people the basic skills of workmanship, the spirit of competition and the perseverance to continue a project once it has begun.

Past participants in the Soap Box Derby include Connor Haggerty, son of Jim Haggerty, co-owner of dbf and Julianna DeAngelo, daughter of Lisa DeAngelo, an employee of dbf. The race takes place on the Market Street Bridge and marks the kick off of the community’s Drug Free Festival. dbf is proud to support the community through its sponsorship of the Kingston/ Wilkes-Barre Soap Box Derby.
